The score

What does the carp score mean?

One number from 0 to 100 showing how promising the moment is. The score is built from eight weather factors — air pressure, wind direction, wind speed, water temperature, moon phase, rainfall, cloud and sun — each with its own weight.

Want to know why you see 74? On the score screen there is Score breakdown: it shows how many points each factor contributes.

Why is the score on the day overview different from a single hour?

The big score at the top is the average across the whole day. Tap an hour in the graph and you see the score for that moment. A day with a mediocre average can easily contain a peak — that is what the hourly graph is for.

Why do the days further out fade?

From day 9 the forecast visibly fades. That is not a fault but honesty: looking further ahead needs heavier models and the uncertainty grows. We show that instead of pretending day 12 is as certain as tomorrow.

Why does my score differ from the "app score"?

Because the app learns from you. From a handful of catches at a swim, CarpWeather looks at which score band you really catch in at that water, and adjusts the score — at most ±8 (on the 0 to 100 scale), so it stays an adjustment, not a different system.

Blanks count towards it: if you often caught nothing on promising days, that tempers your adjustment. The reason is shown with the score, and you can turn the adjustment off per swim under Conditions now.

Where does the weather come from?

The weather and the carp score run on Open-Meteo with the KNMI model. The rain forecast for the next two hours is our own engine on the KNMI-radar, shifting towards the model the further ahead you look. The sources are listed with the radar.

What is the Europe map?

De Europe score map shows you in one map where the fishing is best over the next three days in Western Europe. Every region gets the carp score from 0 to 100 in the same colours as in the app. Handy for planning a session across the border — in France or Spain for instance.

You find the map via the button Europe on the score screen. Pick your countries, pick a day (today, tomorrow or the day after) and tap a region for the full breakdown of the score.

Swims and alerts

What does the star next to a swim do?

A favourite is more than a list: only favourite swims get arrival alerts. Come within 150 metres of such a swim with no session running, and the app taps you on the shoulder and offers to start it.

Your phone can watch at most 20 places at a time, and they are shared out: planned trips come first, then the leaving zone of your running session, and favourites fill up to 20. So with many trips planned, not all your favourites are watched.

How does the app know I am at my swim?

With location set to "always", your phone watches a zone around your swims. Two things then happen:

  • Arrival — within 150 metres of a favourite swim with no session running: "Arrived at {naam} — do you want to start a session here?" Your catches then link to that swim automatically.
  • Leaving — move more than a kilometre away during a session and the app asks whether to finish it.

At the moment this works on iPhone. Your location is only used on your own device for this.

I get no alert when I arrive at my swim (Android)

On iPhone the swim alerts work straight away, even with the app closed. On Android that does not work yet.

The reason: Android — and Samsung in particular — shuts background apps down hard to save battery. The alert would not arrive, or came far too late. We worked on it for a long time and could not make it reliable, and then we would rather not promise it.

On Android you only get the prompt to start a session when the app is open. The score, the weather, the radar, your swims, your catches and every other feature work fine on any device.

We will pick this up as soon as we can make it reliable.

How do I put my rod positions on a swim?

Open a swim and go to rod positions. Tap the map to place a rod and drag it to your baited spot — the app draws the cast line and works out the distance to your swim live. Give each rod its depth and a colour scale shows at a glance where you are shallow and where deep. Switch to satellite to read the bank and the structure of your water too. That way you record where you were when it happened, and repeat your best cast.

Sessions and diary

Do I have to link my catch to a session myself?

No. Log a catch while a session is running and it links itself — including the swim. You can also add a catch afterwards; then you pick the session yourself.

Why would I record a day without a fish?

Because a blank is information. It counts in your stats and it tempers your personal score adjustment: without blanks the app would think every promising day produces fish. So a blank session is not a wasted day for the app.

What do the colours in the diary calendar mean?

Green is landed, red is lost, a cross is a blank. That way you see at a glance how a month went.

Crew and co-op

What is the difference between a crew and a co-op?

A crew is your regular group — it stays. A co-op is one shared session: you fish together, live, and it ends when you are done. A co-op takes place within a crew.

How do I invite someone, and why does my code stop working?

The share code is one-off. As soon as someone uses it to request access it expires — and you still have to approve that request under Requests. For the next mate you make a new code with Refresh code.

A crew has at most 8 members, and the name is 2 to 14 characters.

Who can do what in a crew?

Whoever created the crew is the owner. Only they see Requests and Invite. Any member can change the name, colour and icon.

A crew is not “disbanded”: anyone can leave at any time, and the last member to go closes the crew (with all shared data). If the owner leaves while there are still members, ownership passes automatically to the longest-standing member — so the crew simply carries on.

What exactly do I share when I share a catch?

You choose that yourself, per catch:

  • None — the catch stays yours.
  • Region only — your crew sees the catch and the province or region, but either which water and either the spot. No coordinates, no swim, no notes.
  • Exact — including the spot.

Sending a photo is a separate choice. Note: once someone has seen a photo, they keep the link to that file. So do not share photos you would not want inside your crew.

Can I stop sharing?

Yes. Open the share button on your catch, swim or session and untick the crew — or remove the item from the crew feed. Your crew can then no longer see it.

Sharing works per crew, not per person. Stop sharing and that applies to every member of that crew at once. To shut it off for one person, the only way is to remove them from the crew.

A crew member saved my swim — can I undo that?

No. Whoever saves a shared swim gets their own copy in their swims — with a note saying who it came from. That copy stays theirs, even if you later stop sharing or leave the crew.

So share a swim as exact if you want to give that spot away, and either if you want to keep it to yourself. That is a deliberate choice each time. For a swim those are the two options: a swim without a spot is not a swim.

Why do I see crew catches at my swim?

If your crew fishes the same spot and shares as exact swim, their catches appear in the pattern of your swim. That works through the location, not through your swim: it is their choice to share, and it stands even if you share nothing yourself.

The other way round, in the crew you can tap a shared swim and see the same full pattern as on your own swims: your catches and those of your crew on one score scale, with the band where fish usually come and a read on whether you interpret the water the same way. Tap a dot for the conditions (pressure, wind, temperature, moon) at that catch. That way you learn from each other’s spots.

Does my crew see where I am during a co-op?

Yes. During a co-op the app shares your live location with the participants, so your mates see where you are, and it keeps track of who is watching. That stops as soon as the co-op stops. If you would rather not, do not join the co-op — you can run your normal session on its own.

I am in a co-op — does the swim end up in my session?

Yes. Join a co-op and your own session automatically takes over the host’s swim. Your catches then land in the right place in your diary without you filling anything in.

What happens when I leave a co-op?

You always stop your own session — the co-op itself carries on as long as someone is still fishing. Whoever stops while others continue gets their own summary: your catches, what you lost, and who you fished with. Only when the last angler stops does the co-op close and you see the full summary of everyone together.

The host can always stop earlier without disturbing the others.

How does a swim get into the crew swim list after a co-op?

As host you decide. After the co-op the app asks whether to put this swim in the crew swim list — turn that on and the swim stays on the crew map, also after the session. Leave it off and the swim was only live during the co-op and disappears from the map afterwards.

Your catches go to the crew either way; only the swim is a deliberate choice. People fishing along do not get this choice — it is the host’s swim.

Notifications

Which alerts can I get?

Fifteen in total, each with its own switch under Settings › Notifications. They fall into four groups.

About the weather

  • Daily weather report — a short summary at a time you choose, 07:00 by default.
  • Rain alert — about fifteen minutes before a shower at your swim, only during a running session. So not while you are at home.
  • Wind: turning and gales — when the wind turns or it starts blowing hard.
  • Pressure drop — when the pressure drops fast. Often the moment it kicks off.

About your swims

  • Score peak at your swim — when the score peaks at a favourite.
  • Best hours today — the best feeding time of that day.
  • Your pattern matches — when today resembles the conditions in which you catch. The app learns that from your own diary.
  • Swim alerts — the prompt to start your session when you arrive, and to finish it when you leave. How that works exactly is explained under Swims and alerts above.

About your sessions and trips

  • Trip radar — when a planned trip approaches, shifts or suddenly looks ideal.
  • Session reminder — the evening before and the morning itself, each with its own time.

About your crew

  • Crew — catches, live sessions and messages.
  • Crew chat — a new message from a crew member.
  • New crew member — someone has joined your crew.
  • Milestones — a PB, a milestone or the start of a season.
I get too many (or too few) notifications

Every alert above has its own switch, so you can choose very precisely. At the top there is a master switch: turning that off turns everything off.

If you would rather not be disturbed at night, turn on quiet hours . By default that is between 22:00 and 07:00, and it applies to everything.

Not in the mood for bite alerts today? Turn on “Not today” — then they are muted for today and back to normal tomorrow.

Getting nothing while everything is switched on? Then check whether you have allowed notifications for CarpWeather in your phone’s own settings. That is separate from the switches in the app.

Why do I get an alert at a time that does not suit me?

Most alerts have a time you can set yourself. The daily weather report, the day alerts at your swims and the session reminder each have their own moment under Settings › Notifications.

Others come the moment something happens: a rain alert for an approaching shower, a pressure drop when the pressure falls, a message when your mate sends something. Those cannot be scheduled — that is exactly where their value is.

If too much arrives at an awkward moment, then quiet hours is usually the answer, and otherwise the switch for that one type.

Your data

What is the difference between exporting, backing up and "download my data"?
  • Export — your catches, sessions or swims as CSV, to work with yourself.
  • Full backup — one JSON file with everything, which you can restore later.
  • Download my data — a copy of everything we hold about you, by email. That is your legal right of access.
Does "delete all catches" wipe only my phone, or the cloud too?

The cloud too. The actions in the danger zone at the bottom of Settings — delete all catches, delete all swims, delete all sessions and Factory reset — remove your data on your device and in the cloud. That also goes ahead if you are offline at the time: as soon as you have a connection again, the deletion is carried through.

This cannot be undone. If you only want to clear this device, do not use the danger zone. Make a full backup first.
I signed in on a new phone and data is missing

CarpWeather works on your device first and syncs with the cloud afterwards. Sign in with the same account as on your old phone and give the app a moment. If something is still missing, use Repair sync under Settings; that fetches your cloud again.

What it costs

Can I use CarpWeather for free?

Yes, and without a trial period that runs out on you. Free gives you the carp score with all eight factors, the weather, the rain radar, the wind map, the forecast up to eight days ahead, three swims and fifteen catches. On the Europe score map you see the Netherlands and Belgium.

Sign in for free with an account and cloud backup, the crew chat and watching a co-op session are added.

What does Premium cost?

€2.99 per month, of €24.99 per year with the season pass — that comes down to €2.08 per month, so about thirty percent cheaper.

The season pass starts with seven days free. Cancel within that week and you pay nothing.

What can I do without Premium?

More than you think. The carp score, the weather forecast up to eight days, the rain radar and the 46-day pressure outlook are for everyone — and that last one is exactly what many carp anglers go by.

You can join a crew that invites you, join the chat and watch a co-op session. Contributing is Premium: starting a crew yourself, sharing your catches, swims or sessions, and fishing along in or starting a co-op.

You keep three swims and fifteen catches, and unlimited sessions. You get the daily weather report at your own time, an alert for a planned trip, and messages from your crew.

Everything you record stays yours — also without a subscription, and also if you cancel.

What is in Premium?

The line is simple: free tells you what the weather is doing and what your mates are doing. Premium tells you when you should go.

Alerts that call you: the app asks whether to start a session when you arrive at your swim, and whether to finish it when you drive off. Also: score peak, pressure drop, the best hours of today, rain and wind alerts, an alert when today resembles your strong conditions, and trip radar for your planned sessions. You choose per type what you get, and at what time.

No more limits: unlimited swims and catches. Free keeps three and fifteen.

Further ahead: the daily forecast up to fourteen days instead of eight.

All of Europe on the score map instead of only the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg.

Fishing together: share your catches, swims and sessions with your crew, start and edit a crew yourself, and fish along in or start a co-op session. Reading along and chatting in a crew you were invited to is free.

And the depth: stats, catch patterns per swim, and exporting all your data.

Can I get a refund?

Your purchase goes through the App Store or Google Play, and they handle refunds — we cannot do that ourselves.

App Store: go to reportaproblem.apple.com and sign in with your Apple ID.
Google Play: go to your subscriptions in Google Play.

Stuck? Email us at support@carpweather.app. We are happy to help and can confirm what happened on our side. See also article 2 of the terms.

Does my subscription stop if I delete my account?

No. Those are two separate things. Deleting your account wipes your data with us, but a running subscription goes through the App Store or Google Play and continues until you cancel it there.

So cancel your subscription first and only then delete your account. Otherwise you keep paying for an app you no longer use.

iPhone: your subscriptions in the App Store.
Android: your subscriptions in Google Play.

How do I cancel?

Through your Apple ID or your Google account, like any other subscription — not in the app itself. On iPhone: Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions. You keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for.

Poor signal

What is that thin line under the header?

That is the sync line. It shows whether everything you save is really in the cloud. Usually you hardly notice it — it is only two pixels high and pushes nothing aside.

Tap it and a panel slides out with what is going on at that moment: whether the cloud is reachable, whether your crew connection is live, and what is still waiting to be sent. If nothing is waiting, it says so too.

The line moves while something is being sent. If it keeps moving, your connection is slow; meanwhile your data is safely on your device.

What does “Cloud · not responding” mean?

That the app cannot reach the cloud right now. That happens more often at the water than at home.

The app just keeps working. You can save catches and swims, your session keeps running, and maps you already downloaded stay available. Everything you do in the meantime goes to the cloud by itself as soon as you have signal again.

What does not work without a connection: fetching new weather, chatting with your crew, and the satellite layer on the map.

If the panel shows “Crew · no connection”, that only applies to the live connection with your crew. Messages you send arrive as soon as the connection is back.

Why does saving sometimes take so long?

On a very slow connection it can take up to about sixteen seconds. You then get the message “Saved on your device”.

That is good news, not an error: your catch is saved and goes to the cloud as soon as it can. You can just carry on fishing.

I see dashes instead of numbers. Is my data gone?

No. A dash means “we do not know this yet” — not “this is zero”. That difference matters, because a zero reads as a fact.

As soon as the data arrives, the number fills itself in. If that takes a while, your connection is slow; your data is simply there.

It says “Your swims could not be read just now”. What now?

Then the storage on your device responded too slowly — that happens sometimes after the app has been in the background for a long time. Your swims are still there.

Tap Try again. If that still does not work, close the app completely and open it again.

The long-range pressure forecast is sometimes missing

The six-week outlook needs a connection. Without signal you see a dash at weeks 3–4 and 5–6, with a note that the long-range forecast is unavailable right now.

The next fourteen days do stay: those come from the last data on your device.

The weather is not filled in on a catch

That data is fetched at that moment and so needs a connection — also for a catch from today. Without signal you get “Could not fetch” with a button Again.

You can always fill the fields in by hand, or save the catch without weather and add it later.

I deleted a session, but it is back

That can happen on a very poor connection. The storage on your device can then respond so slowly that the deletion is not written, while the session has already disappeared from view.

Nothing is lost — something stays instead. Delete it again once you have normal signal and it is really gone. We are working on a watertight fix.

Other

Can I see satellite imagery?

Yes. Every map in the app has a switch Map / Satellite. With it you switch to aerial view and read the bank: where the reeds are, where you can sit, how the water runs.

Handy when creating a new swim, and when placing your rod positions.

The satellite layer does need a connection. We are not allowed to store those images, so without signal you see the normal map. That does work offline if you downloaded the area.

Does the map work without signal?

Yes, if you downloaded the area first. Go to Settings → Offline maps and tap a country or area. After that the map works at the water without a connection, with all the detail right up to the bank.

Eleven countries are ready: the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Slovenia and England. The small countries you download whole; the large ones are split into areas, because a whole country would take too much space. Tap the country and you see them.

What you did not download stays empty without signal. At the top of Offline maps there is a small map showing at a glance what is and is not ready.

The satellite layer does not work without a connection. We are not allowed to store those images. The normal map does work.

How much space does an area take?

That varies per area, because a built-up stretch simply contains more than an empty one. A few examples: Luxembourg is 58 MB, the Netherlands 772 MB, Switzerland 494 MB, and the French areas range from 427 to 853 MB.

Every area shows its size before you start, so you always know what you are getting into. Do it on wifi — a large area is almost a gigabyte.

What if my connection drops while downloading?

Then the app picks up where it left off as soon as you have signal again. You do not start over. What has already arrived stays, and the button changes to Further.

You can also tap Stop and continue later.

The app is getting bigger. Can I get space back?

Yes, and that growth almost always comes from the maps you downloaded. There are two ways.

Per area. Go to Settings → Offline maps and tap Erase on an area. That way you keep the Netherlands and only remove that French trip.

Everything at once. Under Settings → Diagnostics and help → Storage use shows how much is stored, and with the button Maps you remove everything.

You lose nothing permanently: you can always download again once you have a connection. Your catches, swims, sessions and photos are separate from this and stay put.

Can I watch the intro again?

Yes — at the bottom of Settings there is Watch the intro again.

Can I use different units?

Yes, under Settings: °C or °F, km/h or mph, kg or lb, metres or feet, hPa or inHg. You can mix them too.

I see a bug or have an idea

Send Feedback from the app (Settings → Feedback). That comes straight to us, with your device and version attached, so we do not have to guess. Emailing is fine too.

CarpWeather is a tool, not a guarantee. The weather is the weather, and the fish have the last word. Always look at the conditions yourself and follow the rules of the water you fish.
