Our engine on the KNMI radar

For the first ninety minutes the radar leads. After that a weighted mix with the weather model, and the model fills the gaps.

  • Radar-accurate up to ninety minutes. You see a shower coming instead of already being there.
  • With a confidence figure. When in doubt the wording gets more careful too: “possibly a shower” instead of a firm promise.
  • The app checks itself. Every forecast is checked afterwards against what the radar actually measured.
  • The radar is from the KNMI — we build our own layer on top of it.

  • Falling pressure ahead of a front is one of the strongest signals there is.
  • You see the trend over twenty-four hours, with the zone where it becomes favourable.
  • And a multi-day timeline where you see a pressure drop coming.

  • Flowing lines over your water, so you see where it comes from.
  • Strength and gusts separately, because that matters for your set-up.
  • An alert when the wind turns or it starts blowing hard during your session.

  • Moon phase with rise and set, and a calendar sixty days ahead.
  • Season advice per month: what carp do in this period, and where to look for them.
  • Both count towards the score — so you do not have to do anything with them if you would rather not.

Frequently asked questions

Where does the weather data come from?

The forecast comes from Open-Meteo, which uses the KNMI model for the Netherlands and surroundings. The rain radar comes straight from the KNMI. Our own layer is in the combination and in translating it into what it means for you.

How far ahead does the rain radar go?

Up to two hours ahead, with a timeline that looks ten minutes back. The whole series comes from the KNMI: measured rainfall for what has been, the KNMI nowcast for what is coming.

Does the weather work without signal?

Partly. The app keeps the last forecast and shows it with its age. If you are somewhere weather has never been fetched, it falls back on the day score for your region.

Why does the temperature sometimes differ from other apps?

Because models differ and because we calculate for your exact point instead of the nearest town. A difference of a degree or two is normal.
